GPL: Aduana Stars reclaim top spot as Kotoko drop points at home

Aduana Stars have reclaimed first place in the Ghana Premier League after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Berekum Chelsea in Dormaa on Wednesday.

The Ogya Club suffered their first defeat of the season to Real Tamale United, and as result lost the top spot, but reclaimed it thanks to forward Bright Adjei’s brace, which inspired them to beat Chelsea at the Agyeman Badu Stadium.

Adjei scored in the 43rd minute, but Afriye Mezack equalised for Berekum Chelsea on the stroke of halftime.

Aduana went ahead again in the 56th minute thanks to Adjei’s second goal, and this time they held on to return to winning ways.

Aduana lead the table, but a win for Accra Lions over Hearts of Oak on Thursday will see the Dormaa club drop to second.

Asante Kotoko were held to a 1-1 draw in Kumasi, preventing the Porcupine Warriors from going top of the league.

Stephen Mukwala scored a penalty to give Kotoko the lead, but they were pegged back in the second half by Legon Cities, who earned a point.

Great Olympics won 2-1 over Real Tamale United, King Faisal stunned Karela United 1-0 in Ayinase, and Bibiani Gold Stars and Medeama shared the spoils, extending the Mauves and Yellows’ winless streak to five games.

Bechem United came from behind to beat Dreams FC, Nsoatreman defeated Tamale City 1-0, and Kotoku Royals and Samartex played out a goalless draw.
